Ihr Warenkorb ist leerDer ziellose junge Herumtreiber Joe heuert auf einem Schiff an, das zwischen Glasgow und Edinburgh verkehrt und dem Ehepaar Ella und Les gehört. Bei einer der Überfahrten entdecken sie die Leiche einer Frau im Wasser. Unfall? Selbstmord? Mord? Als die Polizei den Fall untersucht und sich ein Verdacht erhebt, zeigt sich, dass Joe mehr weiß, als er zugibt.

Very enjoyable film largely due to 1st class acting. I seem have missed the point on the name of the film. I thought he was called Jo not Adam can someone explain to me?

While a little dark this is a movie worth watching. The atmosphere is haunting and the performances spot on. All the actors are brilliant in this but I must give a special nod to Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton. They have amazing chemistry which shows readily in each scene they are in. Another reviewer said that this is a movie that stays with you and it's true which I believe is a sign of a truly good film. Don't be put off by the sex and nudity. While strong I believe it was important to the plot and in getting into the heads of the characters, especially Joe (McGregor). I don't understand why sex and nudity get such a strong negative reaction from a lot of people. In this film it wasn't gratuitous just realistic. Trust me just watch it. A lot more substance here than in a lot of what Hollywood puts out.

It was kept in very good condition and we had no problems with the quality, i was also VERY impressed at how quick it got to me! I was expecting it to be a while so wasn't looking out for it and it turned up after about two days of me ordering! well worth the purchase, thank you!

Ein äußerst düsterer Film, der mit seinen dunklen Bildern eine leicht abstoßende Wirkung auf den Zuschauer haben kann. Und falls die üblichen Moralvorstellungen noch greifen, könnte sich sogar Entsetzen breit machen. Zumindest ist man nachhaltig geschockt, wenn man nicht völlig abgestumpft ist. Die Kamera bleibt ganz dicht am Geschehen dran und bietet bisweilen ungewöhnliche Einstellungen von Enge, Trostlosigkeit und Schmutz. Selbst der Sex verkommt zum voyeuristischen Blick durch eine Ritze. Tilda Swinton, schmuddelig aber willig und Peter Mullen ist wieder der Gelackmeierte. Das ganze Mitleid gehört aber der süßen Emily Mortimer. So kann man seine Sympathien und Antipathien verteilen bei der Geschichte vom jungen Joe (nicht Adam!). Ewan McGregor spielt ihn unbekümmert und nebulös. Er lädt ständig Schuld auf sich, ohne Reue oder Einsicht zu zeigen. (Erst ganz am Schluss versucht er seine Tat aufzuklären, ohne aus der Deckung zu kommen), fernab von Schuld und Sühne. Manche Szenen wirken etwas aufgesetzt, weil direkt aus der Romanvorlage entnommen. Deshalb ist auch wohl eher die Lektüre zu empfehlen. Da kann die Fantasie dann je nach Vorstellungskraft dunkle Leidenschaften zum Leben erwecken.

I tend to agree with one of the reviewers that so defined this movie.The plot is intriguing, and, in the best English movie/ novel making tradition, it develops at slow but steady pace. Pictures are finely taken, with attention to detail, and do not fail to impress the viewer. Acting is also fine by all: giving resonance to every-day actions and sentences. However, there is little emotion, especially in the main character, played by Ewan Mc Gregor. His frequent blankly staring does not help figure what goes on in his mind - perhaps reading the novel would help. He ends up having sex with every woman he meets, and I wonder what they find so attractive in him, as he rarely expresses more than a few words before the sex action starts - or perhaps I have still a lot to learn in this field.For the excessive nude scenes (that could have been easily spared, this adding to the movie) and lack of emotion, I rate it only 3.
